Dunbar Elementary School Principal Heads To The Roof

Dunbar Elementary School Principal Heads To The Roof

(KTVI) – The principle of Dunbar Elementary School will be spending some time on the schools roof Friday.  The principal lost a bet with the school’s students in a reading challenge.

Principal Carla Cunigan, challenged the students to read 6,000 books for this school year.  Well, the student easily beat that, by reading 7,000 books.

The school is one of three St. Louis Public Schools that have partnered with Wells Fargo Advisors, who provided tutors, purchased and implemented the reading program for Dunbar.  The online programs showed reading levels at the school increased in all grade levels, 1st-6th and vocabulary for pre-school and kindergarten students.

Friday, May 10th, Principal Cunigan will present awards to the schools top readers, host a dinner for all the schools students and climb to the roof at 7:00 pm.

Blue Genie Grants Wishes For 4-Year-Old Cancer Patient

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) -  When we first met Liam Myrick last year, he was making paintings and they were getting sold on Facebook.

It was to help pay more than half a million dollars in medical bills after he was diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma.

Today this four year old was granted a wish…by a genie.

‘Certainly when you see the look on Liam’s face today it makes it all worth it,’ says Patrick Fusz the general sales manager for Lou Fusz Toyota.  That dealership provided a vehicle for Liam and his family to drive around in on their dream day.

Liam was all smiles as he and his family got a front row view at the St. Louis Zoo.

It was a welcome departure from the daily visits to children’s hospital to fight his childhood cancer.

‘We don’t get to do this very often or anything like this at all,’ says Greg Myrick, Liam’s Father.

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A tweet heated up debate over a little-known bill moving through the Missouri legislature. One lawmaker says Missouri House Bill 46 would protect farmers from unmanned drones.  One police chief said an amendment to that bill could put lives at risk.

St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch said police helicopters fly over the region most of the day.

“What if you have a child that’s lost…and we know that many children will wander into the neighbor’s pool and drown before you can find them?” said Police Chief Tim Fitch.
