5th Annual Taste Of Maplewood To Held Saturday

MAPLEWOOD, MO. (KTVI) – The 5th annual taste of Maplewood will be held this Saturday, May 18th from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm.  The event has grown over the past 5 years and will feature this year for the first time, a “Best of the Taste of Maplewood”, that will offer local vendors to claim bragging rights to the best food and during in Maplewood.

The festival will feature music from area bands and food from local restaurant in Maplewood.

Inc. Yourself Program Aims To Help Entrepreneurs

(KTVI)-A recent report by Kiplinger ranked the top ten cities to start a business and St. Louis was number 5 on the list.  The St. Louis Comptroller’s office and St. Louis Community College have been offering free workshops for people wanting to learn more about starting their own business called Inc. Yourself.

The next workshop is Thursday, July 19, at the St. Louis Community College William Harrison Education Center from 5-7pm. Sandra Marks, a Business Development coach, will be the key speaker.

Missouri Governor Appoints New Member To Harris-Stowe Board

Harris-Stowe State University is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Reginald Dickson, the newest addition to the university’s Board of Regents.  Regent Dickson will be sworn in by the Honorable Jimmie Edwards, 22nd Circuit, Division 30, at 10 a.m. during the next board meeting on June 19, 2012, in the Dr. Henry Givens Jr. Administration Building.

Dickson, an alumnus of Harris-Teachers College, is one of the founders of Buford, Dickson, Harper & Sparrow Inc., (BDHS) and serves as the firm’s chairperson, a principal and a member of the investment committee. His Fortune 500 board experience spans more than 33 years and includes serving on the board of directors of the audit committee of Dollar General Corporation and as board chairman at Regions Bank Community Development Corporation. Currently, he serves on the board of Huntington Preferred Capital Inc.

PNC Arts Alive Awards Craft Alliance $40,000 Grant

Craft Alliance is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a $40,000 grant from PNC Arts Alive. PNC Arts Alive is a two-year, $1 million initiative from The PNC Foundation that supports visual and performing arts groups with the goal of increasing arts access and engagement in new and innovative ways.

Seventeen arts organizations in the Greater St. Louis area were selected for bold thinking around increasing arts access and engagement and Craft Alliance was one of them.

With each session filled to capacity, reaching 220 parents and children, PNC Arts Alive Free Saturdays at Craft Alliance had an incredibly successful first year.

Botanical Garden Gets $3 Million Grant For Online Database

The Missouri Botanical Garden has received a generous three-year, $3 million gift from Monsanto Company to support its work on the development of World Flora Online.

The World Flora is an international collaborative effort involving the leading botanical institutions worldwide to develop the first-ever comprehensive, authoritative and accessible online resource for the world’s approximately 400,000 known plant species.

The World Flora Online will improve access, analysis and management of critical botanical information for policy makers and planners, biodiversity conservation practitioners, botanists, ecologists, geneticists, other scientists and users of plant data worldwide.

The support of Monsanto Company will fund the Missouri Botanical Garden’s contributions to this ambitious endeavor from 2012 to 2015.

The 7th Annual First District Career Fair will take place on Monday, June 4th from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Harris-Stowe State University’s Emerson Physical Education & Performing Arts Center located at 3026 Laclede Avenue.

This jobs event will feature more than 100 St. Louis area employers. The event is free.
