Trailnet, MoDOT and Metro Transit Kick Off Cyclist, Motorist and Pedestrian Safety

ST. LOUIS - Many Missourians walk or bicycle to get where they need to go. While both activities provide physical and health benefits, there is always the risk of serious or fatal injuries if pedestrian and cyclists come in contact with a motor vehicle.

Trailnet, Missouri Department of Transportation and Metro Transit are partnering to kick off the "Safe Roads for All" initiative today throughout May to enforce the need for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to share the road and be aware of one another's safety. Leaders of these transportation agencies led a safety ride and walk from the Missouri History Museum to the St. Louis Downtown Bicycle Station representing the importance of "sharing the road."

Susan Scott, a family victim who lost her son, spoke at this morning's news conference that kicked off the joint safety initiative. Her son was hit and killed by a drunk driver last year February while commuting on his bicycle.
