CENTRAL WEST END (KTVI)-It’s checkmate at the U.S. Chess Championships in the Central West End. Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, from St. Louis, won his 3rd U.S. Title Saturday. Nakamura is the No. 6 chess player in the world and No. 1 in the U.S.

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis (CCSCSL) hosted two national chess events this month, the U.S. and Women’s Chess Championships. The final round for the U.S. Women’s events is being held Sunday.

Also competing in the 2012 U.S. Championship was 17-year-old Ray Robson, who will attend Webster University in the fall.
