ST. LOUIS (AP) – A longtime Missouri Department of Corrections employee is taking the helm of the St. Louis city jail, at least for now.
Mayor Francis Slay on Thursday appointed Dale Glass as acting corrections commissioner.
He replaces Gene Stubblefield, who has been removed but not officially fired. The city’s Civil Service Commission is likely to rule on his firing by summer.
Glass retired from the Missouri corrections department in 2009 as deputy warden of a prison in Pacific. He worked for the department for 28 years.
He takes over a city department troubled by jail breaks, millions of dollars in unbudgeted overtime expenses and other problems.
Glass will start on Monday.
