Alderman Carter’s Family Reacts to His Death | News

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The family of St. Louis City Alderman Gregory Carter gathered at his 27th Ward home early Wednesday morning after finding out about his death. His nephew, State Representative Chris Carter, says Alderman Carter is the reason he got into politics.
After learning of his death in a trucking accident early Tuesday, the family of St. Louis City Alderman Gregory Carter at his home.
Carter grew up and lived in the 27th Ward. He also represented his neighbors on the St. Louis City Board of Aldermen for 13 years. Those neighbors said they saw a Missouri Highway Patrolman at the Carter home early Tuesday and knew something was terribly wrong.
She immediately reached out to family for support. After some shock and tears, Carter`s nephew, Chris Carter, started remembering the good times with his mentor and uncle.
‘The last time that I physically spoke to him, we were right here in this spot,’ Representative Carter said as he stood across the street from his uncle`s home. ‘Someone had busted up my uncle Wardell`s car. We were joking about how he should have moved his car. That was the last time.’
Family members continued to gather throughout the day to both give and get support. They met to strategize. They are planning a funeral now. But, they are also prepared for a back-to-school rally. Alderman Carter planned that for August 11, 2012. Representative Carter said the rally, and other events his uncle was working on, will go as scheduled.
Alderman Gregory Carter was 54 years old. He left behind his wife, Barbara, and two children.
