5th Annual Taste Of Maplewood To Held Saturday

MAPLEWOOD, MO. (KTVI) – The 5th annual taste of Maplewood will be held this Saturday, May 18th from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm.  The event has grown over the past 5 years and will feature this year for the first time, a “Best of the Taste of Maplewood”, that will offer local vendors to claim bragging rights to the best food and during in Maplewood.

The festival will feature music from area bands and food from local restaurant in Maplewood.

Friday Night Concert Series At The St. Louis Zoo Schedule

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – The 2013 Friday night concert series at the St. Louis Zoo has been released.  The concert series is slated to start on Friday, May 24 at 5:00 pm.  The series will go from May 24th to August 30th at the zoo.

All of the concerts are free to the public and go from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Concerts will be located in the Schnuck Family Plaza, in the center of the zoo.

St. Louis Zoo Extending Open Hours For The Summer

St. Louis Zoo Extending Open Hours For The Summer

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Starting on May 24th, through September 2nd, the St. Louis Zoo will be extending its hours for the summer.  On Fridays, Saturday’s and Sunday’s the zoo hours will be from 08:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Weekdays summer hours will be 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.

On Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, the Zoo is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Zoo will close at 12 noon on Friday, June 21, for ZOOFARI, the Zoo’s biennial fundraiser.

Enjoy free live music by local bands on Friday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m., except on June 21

When Lauren Lee was battling cancer at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, a visit from Justin Bieber would have done wonders to lift her spirits.

"It would have just made it all better," the 13 year old from Maryville, IL, said.

Now Lee is on a campaign to make the dream a reality for her peers at the medical center.

Botanical Garden Gets $3 Million Grant For Online Database

The Missouri Botanical Garden has received a generous three-year, $3 million gift from Monsanto Company to support its work on the development of World Flora Online.

The World Flora is an international collaborative effort involving the leading botanical institutions worldwide to develop the first-ever comprehensive, authoritative and accessible online resource for the world’s approximately 400,000 known plant species.

The World Flora Online will improve access, analysis and management of critical botanical information for policy makers and planners, biodiversity conservation practitioners, botanists, ecologists, geneticists, other scientists and users of plant data worldwide.

The support of Monsanto Company will fund the Missouri Botanical Garden’s contributions to this ambitious endeavor from 2012 to 2015.

Zoo Attendance Sets Year-To-Date Record, Topping 1 Million

The Saint Louis Zoo announced that more than a million visitors have come through its doors since Jan. 1, 2012, setting a record for that five-month period.

Zoo attendance for that period was 1,089,097, as of May 13, 2012.

“We are thrilled with this attendance because it gives us the opportunity to connect more and more people with the need to conserve animals and their habitats,” says Dr. Jeffrey P. Bonner, Dana Brown President & CEO of the Saint Louis Zoo.

Attractions at the zoo will soon include Sea Lion Sound, opening June 30, offering up-close and personal contact with wonderful marine mammals – California sea lions and harbor seals.
