An Ode To Last Minute Halloween Shoppers

A lot of last minute Halloween shoppers are hitting area stores hoping to find the right costume. Maybe they're just looking for something spooky to go with their homes they've turned into haunted houses. Patrick Clark has written a poem about last minute shopping on Halloween.

Double, double toil and trouble
Fire burn and caldron bubble
Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf
Witches' mummy; Maw and gulf.

Last minute shoppers At Johnny Brocks
Demons, witches and warlocks.

Procrastinators and last minute shoppers
Trick or treaters and party hoppers
Looking for costumes, funny and scary
Captains and cardinals and things that are hairy

Knocking on doors and ringing of bells
It's not just for children, as any can tell
So slow down this evening
When you're out in this town
Cause ghosts and goblins will be making the rounds.

Italian Mystery Author Carofiglio To Visit St. Louis

Italian Mystery Author Carofiglio To Visit St. Louis

Crime crosses borders fluidly in the case of Italian writer Gianrico Carofiglio.

He has been on the prosecuting end of some of the major anti-Mafia trials in Italy and now serves in the Italian Senate but internationally he’s better known for his series of mysteries set in the coastal town of Bari, Italy.  Bestsellers in Italy (the latest sold over 450,000), his books have been critically well received around the world including in this country.  Not only are his novels valued for their suspense, Carofiglio’s evocative powers as a writer richly conjures up both a mystery and a city, Puglia’s Bari, full of characters and neighborhoods that draw his character out of his bookish life and into the streets.
